Additive Layer Rapid Spares Project

AVPE and Airbus in Filton have recently agreed to collaborate on a project to demonstrate a rapid spares supply chain capability in the South West using near net shaped additive manufactured blanks.

The market need for this capability is been driven in the short term by the availability and cost of traditionally manufactured castings/forgings, particularly for the legacy spares market, where short lead times are a prequisite.

This project commences in Q4 2017 and will be completed by mid-2018. The project is being part funded by a grant from the University of the West of England (UWE) under their Innovation4Growth, ESIF funded program.

Chris Steel Chairman of AVPE comments: “This is an important project for both Airbus Filton, AVPE and the UK supply chain, to demonstrate our collective capability to meet the demanding and emerging supply chain requirements arising from Additive Layer technology.

There is a significant opportunity to develop a regional supply chain cluster around, what we hope will be a Technology Hub on the Filton site, which in-part will be focused on Additive Layer technology. I would like to thank UWE for recognising the importance of this opportunity and support this project.”
